SYDNEY, NSW, Australia - Stock markets in Asia continued to slide on Friday.
The Australian All Ordinaries fell 57.40 points or 0.82 percent to 6,976.10.
In New Zealand, the S&P/NZX 50 dropped 23.41 points or 0.19 percent to 11,103.79.
Japan's Nikkei 225 retreated 195.19 points or 0.71 percent to 27,116.11.
In Seoul, South Korea, the Kospi Composite lost 2.91 points or 0.13 percent to 2,234.95.
The Hang Seng in Hong Kong let go 272.10 points or 1.51 percent to 17,740.05.
China's Shanghai Composite remained close for Golden Week.
The U.S. dollar strengthened across the board Friday during the Asian trading zone. The euro dipped to 0.9780 by the Sydney close. The British pound dived to 1.1139. The Japanese yen weakened to 144.98. The Swiss franc softened to 0.9902.
The Canadian dollar was lower at 1.3751. The Australian dollar eased to 0.6397. The New Zealand dollar was little changed at 0.5640.
Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrials shed 346.93 points or 1.15 percent to 29,926.94.
The Nasdaq Composite fell 75.33 points or 0.68 percent to 11,073.31.
The Standard and Poor's 500 dropped 38.76 points or 1.02 percent to 3,744.52.
